What is a credit card?
A credit card is in effect a loan whereby each card is allocated a credit limit - and you cannot spend more than the credit limit.
With a credit card you can purchase goods or services immediately as long as you have enough credit on your card for the purchase.
Payment is then required the following month when you receive your statement. You can then either pay all the amount owing in full, or make the minimum specified payment. This helps you to manage your money in a way that suits you.
Using a card is a safer way to buy things than carrying cash around. TO be able to get the best deals online, it's almost a necessity to have a credit card. When travelling, hotels and car hire companies require you have a card to secure a deposit.
You can use a card anywhere to purchase goods or services whether on the high street or online in the UK or ... in fact anywhere in the World where the VISA symbol is displayed. You can also take out cash at an ATM with your card, although this is more expensive.
Before you make purchases on a credit card, always think about whether you can afford at least the minimum payment. We would recommend that you can afford more than the minimum payment.
A credit card is not suitable for long term borrowing. If you need to purchase a large item and repay over a longer period, an Unsecured Personal Loan or Car Loan
or Van Loan may be more suitable.
